PROLOGUE: THE BEGINNING OF THE END
Her tears mingled with mine as we kissed. A warm, gentle gift she gave me. I could no longer think any harmful thoughts-but thoughts of sorrow and love. Now I must make a choice. Realizing what I have done, I let Christine and Raoul free to be happy together. As they leave the tears continue to trickle down my half-burned face. I no longer have the longing for a mask-for I do not need one. If Christine could accept me for who I am, I need not a mask to hide. I could see so much from Christines eyes-even from this distance. In her eyes: hatred, pity, sorrow, and love-yes, love! For Raoul, and even for me! For a moment I thought she was singing for me-but I must not fool myself! No matter how much I love her-I must remain strong! There is always hope for a better future, now that the opera ghost is no more.
The mob grows near. I must leave. There is no need to take the mask. Exiting swiftly, being careful not to leave a trail, I stay close. They cannot follow me for they will never find me through my labyrinth. I waited only a few mere hours before I thought it safe to return. They did not take anything, not even my poor mask. By this time, I grow tired and weary. Soon they will fix the damages, and if so, replace some of the cast. I trust Firmin and Andre will retire despite they have only been here but a year. I do not blame them. It is, in fact, my fault. Everything is. Nobody will accept me now, at least, not any who knew of my presence. For now, I must sleep, and hope they will not return. For if they do, I will be sure to escape again.
***THE NEXT MORNING UNDER THE OPERA HOUSE***
The first thing I did when I got up was check that what happened was real. I checked for my angel-yet I dare not speak-or sing for that matter. It is empty-sheer darkness. I traveled back to the cellars of the Opera House with one thought in my head-Christine is really gone. She is with her childhood lover now. I thought for sure when she gave me the ring she would stay-she had such expression of love in her eyes. It was then and there I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my days with her. There was nothing I could do about it now. Who knows where they are. Yet-maybe there is hope. Christine might come back to this Opera House and travel down the passages in which I took her-and realize she chose the wrong man! Yes, there is hope indeed! But that could take time.
Dare I risk exposing myself to the outside of this opera in such a time? So soon after the disaster which I caused? No, I must wait. It is my only chance. Until then, I rest and figure out what I shall do when the time comes to track down my darling Christine.
CHAPTER 1: ONE WEEK LATER
It has been a week since I freed The Count and Christine. I have been weary and it is hard for me to concentrate. The music the night is truly over. The Opera House has never been so quiet. I have not been eating so much as I used to, nor do I continue to compose. Crying is useless-for it gets me nowhere. I must remember as to where Raoul and Christine would retreat to
*DOWNTOWN PARIS*
The sun beamed on Christines dark curly hair and the wind carried it ever-so slightly. Raoul would not leave her for a moment.
Isnt it a beautiful day? Raoul said with a broadened smile.
Its simply gorgeous. Replied Christine with full attention and a strengthening smile. Christine was truly happy-she was with the man she loves, it was a beautiful day, and she knew he would formally purpose tonight. She tries to put the past behind her. And yet, its like a ghost that haunts her-in dreams, even day dreams. As strange as it may sound-she misses the singing in the night-the man of mystery who sang in the darkness of night, whom took her threw the mirror. She knows this is no good. She must forget everything and keep thinking of Raoul.
Darling, lets go for a walk on the beach. It seems so long since Ive been there. Said Christine suddenly.
Then-- let us go! said Raoul, a bit hesitant at first, but then trusting in Christine.
What Raoul did not know what that Christine was going to find a way to get back to the Opera House. She wants to see it-just once more-its as if she cant move on without seeing it a last time. She is also curious as to what happened to the phantom. Was he really changed? Or did he return to his old ways? She does not expect to find him there, but secretly, wants to see him, just one more time-just as a memory of what once was a love for a lifetime.
Raoul then noticed Christine to what seemed like day dreaming.
Christine? he said.
Snapping out of her thoughts,
Christine replied Yes dear?
Was it a day dream? Raoul said a bit worried and anxious.
Yes. Replied Christine.
Relieved, Raoul replied And what was it that you were dreaming about?
Well, if you must know, said Christine covering her true sadness
I was dreaming about the first time we met-my red scarf, father, and the sea.
Sounds lovely. said Raoul, mystified and slightly uncertain she was telling the truth.
Oh it was, said Christine it was.
The sun was growing near its time-for it lay a shimmer of bright orange, red and yellow upon the sea. Perhaps one of the most beautiful times of day in Paris is when the sun sets. Its also the most romantic time day.
Come Christine, remarked Raoul we should return and get ready for dinner.
Slightly surprised Christine replied Yes dear.
*IN THE CHAMBERS OF THE OPERA*
The sun is setting-it must be close to night. It is hard to think only a week has passed. Yet-I have done nothing. I shutter to think Christine and Raoul escaped out of Paris. I trust Christine would not let Raoul take her anywhere out of Paris. Im sure Raoul will not let my innocent Christine out of his site either. I suppose I should get some fresh air, and this time of night is perfect- no one will care to pay attention to me.
As I make my way out of my quarters, I notice something-a tiny white envelope in the place in which Christine changed into my wedding dress. Her clothing also remains from out duet in Don Juan Triumphant. The envelope contains black ink entitled To Erik. I slipped it into my pocket not thinking it holds any importance to me. Finally I came to an entrance to the real world. I crossed into the darkness of the night.
I managed to pass by guards in the front of the Opera House. As I walk around Paris at night, something caught my eye. It seemed to be a large black carriage with a pure white horse attached. I remained unseen and watching in awe until the sight of someone had come to my view. I could only see the rear of their head; it seemed a young man with long dark brown hair and what looked like royal clothing stepped out of the carriage. He was smiling at the something-or perhaps-someone in the carriage. Suddenly a fair hand poke out of the carriage-a womans-the man took the ladys hand and escorted her out of the carriage. First, a beautiful, tiny glass shoe touched the ground, gently. Then another, until finally the woman had come out of the carriage. She has long, thick brown hair and very fare skin. She is wearing a fairly long golden dress-very typical for an evening such as this. They seemed to be engaged for I notice a golden band around her tiny fingers-something about that ring-her hair-her hands-CHRISTINE!
CHAPTER 2: A NIGHT IN THE TOWN
Ah! Welcome Mr. Changy! How was your ride? Good I trust on such a night as this. Said the restaurant employee greeting Raoul and Christine.
Thank you for asking, it was lovely. The moon shines so bright and beautifully tonight-I think we shall eat on the deck, overlooking the sea and stars. Replied Raoul, excited.
Your wish is my command. said the employee.
        *ACROSS FROM THE RESTRAUNT*
CHRISTINE! OH MY DARLING, DARLING, CHRISTINE! Tears flooded my eyes at that moment. I was overwhelmed with joy-knowing she was not out of Pairs. Why, if she were, I would have never had the strength to carry on. I soon followed-threw the shadows-as to where Raoul and Christine were seated.
They mostly talked about things concerning the Opera and if she were to continue her career
So what are you planning on doing? I dont mean to pry, but Raouls voice seemed to trail off. Christines mind only thought of one thing-pry. Her angel once called her a Prying Pandora. She knew if she were to keep dreaming-Raoul would soon notice, so she snapped out of it. But Erik noticed
She seemed distracted, somehow, for a moment. I wonder if she was thinking of me. Maybe she was having doubts-about Raoul and the life she choose. Surely she knew his family and had no problem with them. Or maybe it was just a tiring week for her. Whatsoever it be, I will find out
Oh, thats fine Raoul. I have not given much thought as to what I shall do with my career. It was rapidly progressing- she stopped. Glossiness came about her eyes, as well as a light pink. Career and progressthings Erik both said to her at the Masquerade ball. Christine quickly purged her thoughts.
As I was saying, I did mature through the past year. So why should I not continue at the Opera House? said Christine.
Raoul, a bit uncertain of Christine, and concerned, replied Christinesurely you must not mean the Opera Populare
Thoughts ran about my head. Maybe Christine was trying to find a way back to me-yes-thats it! That has to be the only reason for her wanting to come back to the Opera House! Ah, a delight indeed! She must be thinking of her options now
Well, Started Christine looking for any reason to go back there. I see no reason not to-after all, it is one of the finest Opera Houses in the world and I was honored to be there.
By this time Raoul was uncertain of everything. He was uncertain marriage was a good idea in such a time. He knew he must purpose soon though-and he had his heart set on doing it tonight.
I see. Replied Raoul with a sigh. if it is truly what you wish for
It is indeed! replied Christine with a glowing, excited face. Perhaps even too much excitement
There! Just there! I saw it! Her expression! Oh, my darling, darling Christine! I will win you back! Oh, just seeing that look on your face-that enthusiasm in your eyes-talking about coming backTO ME!
CHAPTER 3: NOT-SO SECRET ENGAGEMENT
The night grew late overwhelmingly fast. Christine and Raoul finally stopped talking about her career and went back to other subjects such as politics. As for me-I sat there and soaked up in ever bit of Christines enthusiasm of coming back to me as I could. But I was careful; careful not to be seen, heard, or trail off in thoughts-for I might miss a rather important part in their conversation
How is your food Little Lotte? said Raoul suddenly. He hoped calling her Little Lotte again would vanquish her thoughts of the phantom and lead to thoughts of their childhood.
Christine, almost in shock, replied: Oh, Its simply delicious. How is yours?
The same said Raoul with a broad smile.
Raoul, thank you so much for bringing me to dinner. Its has truly been a fantastic day. Said Christine.
Yes said Raoul. Now was the time, he knew. Just as she had said that-he knew now he would purpose to her, and she would say yes! Christine, said Raoul starting to kneel would you give me the honor-of your hand in marriage?
Christines face turned all sorts of shades and expressions. Some-thrilled and others, not quite. She was pail for a moment, and regained her strength. III-- Christines mind raced. She did not know what to do. If, by some chance, she went back and found her angel, then she would have betrayed Raoul- if they were engaged-again! She felt the darkness consume her and it swept over her entire body, she rose only for a moment, then fainted
CHRISTINE! NO, PLEASE DONT! Oh, I hope she is alright!! Once more-tears come forth from my adoring eyes. Of course Raoul is holding her now which still makes me tremble. I do not trust anyone but me holding her. Oh, I must follow them! Christine
HELP! SOMEBODY, HELP! cried Raoul, desperate. She was fine just a moment ago, what could have happened? And all those expressions-now It was now Raouls mind which was racing. He thought it was him asking too soon that made her overwhelmed.
Oh dear me! Madame mosielle Daae! said the restaurant employee, gasping.
What shall I do Monsieur Chagny?
Just order my carriage, and tell them to hurry. I will leave her to rest at home. Said Raoul, as calmly as he could.
Soon enough, his carriage arrived. He carefully picked up Christines body-but it was too heavy for him to hold. An employee helped him carry her to the carriage
I am trying to be a step ahead of them-this way I can follow them easier. Only I can hold her suitably. Not even her own love could hold her. I do hope it is a short way to travel. How will I ever know if she said yes or no after she wakes up? Finally
Please, be gentle. Said Raoul while his coachmen helped him carry Christine into her room.
Thank you. He said closing the door. The best thing would be to just leave her alone for now. As Raoul walks out, he makes sure to close the door behind him, then travels off to tell his mother why they are home and when happened
So this is the Changy house. It is as spacious as I imagined. There are many windows-for I watched Raoul travel with my Angels body to her room. Lucky for me-I have two advantages- her room lay on the first floor-the other- her window is open.
Oh, she looks so lovely. I can sing for her-right here-outside! She will surly wake up!
And so in a soft, gentle tone I sang, Wandering Childso lostso helpless, yearning for my guidance
Slowly, Christine became entranced and woken.
She replied, in song, Angeloh speak! What endless longings, echo in this whisper!
Careful not to disturb others in the house hold, I continued to whisper my words.
Come to your angelcomecome I said in the most seductive tone-luring her to me-or at least-back to the Opera House.
Angelpleaseforgive me! Please wait, my darling! Sing and I will come to you!... said Christine with such allegiance I knew she were longing for me as I am her.
I forgive you!...come when the time is right!...Farwell my darlingangel! I said about to excite and go back to my quarters.
Good night, master! said Christine, pleased.

CHAPTER 4: AN OPEN WINDOW-AN OPEN OPERTUNITY
Christine woke with Raoul by her side and the warmth of the sun on her gentle, fair hands.
Christine? Christine? Are you finally awake? said Raoul
Surprised it was Raoul, not her angel, Christine replied, Yes. What happened last night? I dont remember much
Oh, why, you fainted-at the restaurant. I- I- Im sorry Little Lotte said Raoul with sympathy. He dare not speak of his proposal.
Dontplease Raoul- dont call me Little Lotte! said Christine, almost, with fear. But she was not afraid. She did not like to recall of her childhood memories-after all-she had finally gotten over her fathers death, but, how she missed him so! The closest thing left to her father-was her angel-and she let him go! Oh, how she hopes to see him again!
In shock, Raoul- desperate to please Christine- replied Anythingfor you my darling.
The words burned her heart-she could not wait to escape this life and go back to her angel. But she must not be so obvious! For, she fears Raoul discovering of her secret plans.
What time is it? Has breakfast been served? I am terribly famished. Christine said suddenly.
Oh, its fine. Yes, breakfast is waiting for you. Answered Raoul.
Thank you. I wish to be alone for now if its alright darling, after all, I cant go down stairs looking like this. Said Christine with a smile
Ah, what a success indeed! Now all I must do it wait! But what shall I do--whats this? A note?...AH, YES! Of course! The note I found last night! Well, since I have nothing better to do I ought to open it.
        MY DARLING ANGEL:
If you are reading this note-it means you have freed me for whatsoever reason it be. I can assure that you, my darling Erik, are always in my thoughts. One day-perhaps sooner then you think-I will find a way back to you. This I can declare, for as sure as I am writing it this very moment. Raoul and the managers have told me their plan and I am awfully terrified. I do not wish to harm you-only to help others-please understand angel! What happens tonight, I fear, will never be forgotten! Oh, my darling, my love, please forgive anything I have done which could have been prevented! Be it as it is true, I want to be captured and never saved. Erik, I long for you and your music-for-I cannot imagine a life without the music of the night! Erik, please save me, and wait for me my love!
                                                        Your Christine
She- I- ohChristinepleaseforgive me! Your Christine I read it over and over- she signed it- Your Christine! Yes, the tears flood my eyes at this point; my adoring, betraying eyes! Oh, can she ever truly forgive me!...after all I have doneto herand to the persons in the Opera House! So once again I am burdened and blinded by the sweet tears which pour from my glossy, pink eyes.
CHAPTER 5: BETTER THEN OLD TIMES
Ah! Good morning Miss Daae! said Madame Chagny with a warm smile, as always.
Good morning. Christine replied, smiling as well.
I hope I did not worry you last nightreally-I never thought I would- I was feeling perfectly fine-
Oh, hush child! You did not trouble us one bit! And after all that has happened
        Mother! cried Raoul quickly.
Im so sorry! said Madame Chagny with true sympathy.
Silence was among the breakfast table. On the table lay a white lace table cloth-one only a rich family could afford. Amid the table were fine china dishes, those of only the highest quality, and steaming-hot foods such as: croissants, bacon, eggs, toast, French toast, and freshly-squeezed orange juice. Finally, Christine broke the immeasurable silence.
Thats alright. I do not mind if you wish to speak ofthe past eventsas long as you do not trail off too far back...perhaps to the days of our childhood. Said Christine with a slight pale to her fare face.
Right. And I do not wish to make you feel uncomfortable Christine. After all, you are like family to us here-said Madame Chagny
Family...Christine wanted not to be of the Chagny family, nor did she wish to be referred to as like family. To hide her true feelings, Christine replied,
Thank you. Shall we eat then?
Indeed we shall! said Raoul-joyous that Christine was content
Morning already? I feel so- refreshed! Now, it hardly seems long until she will be back into my arms again- not long at all! Perhapswhile I waitI shall travel about the Operajust to pass time. Although, I must admit, I am rather curious as to what remains of the Opera popular.
Once again, I am blinded by sheer darkness. Everywhere I seem to go-the black thickens. After traveling for quite sometime, a small opening of light blinds me. Whats this? Lightcould it be
Firmin, I do not see why we had to work HERE. We would have been better off in some caf drinking some nice warm tea instead of choking of mild dust in a cold, abandoned Opera House. Said Andre.
Andre I told you, Replied Firmin with a grin, I can just concentrate better here-and besides we need some of the supplies here to finish and the proper papers, as well.
Well I also do not understand why you do not give this Opera House up! The damages are so costly, and the cast-well its safe to say-we truly have no cast! said Andre, furious as to why they do not retire.
Oh Andre, must you insist on pestering me. I will never get any work finished with your constant bickering. And Andre, please remember, the phantom is no more-he fled for whatsoever reason! We have nothing to worry about. We should even consider opening it again!
Have you gone mad! said Andre, now fuming. After all thats happened! You want to OPEN the Opera Populaire?! Indeed-you have gone mad! Firmin, you are blinded by the fame and fortune made off this once world-famous Opera house!
Ah, my dear Andre, but that is where you are blinded! You are blinded by the past events, instead of thinking of a bright future with many possibilities! said Firmin, with such enthusiasm, Andre was silenced.
E-Excuse me said a distant, shaky voice. Monseuirs, so you wish to re-open the Opera House? If you do-I am willing to be part of the ballet.
Come into the light child. Said Firmin
The footsteps could be heard throughout the managers office. Before being consumed by the light, fare skin appeared, and slowly, a gorgeous, fine, white dress came into sight. Finally, the girls figure was noticeable. She step fully into the light, at last, revealing her identity.
        Christine! shouted the two managers.
I do not wish to bother you. I was passing by and I thought I come in and give it a try-surly you are not thinking of retiring? With so much to offer, now with no threats! Christine said it with sheer passion. Perhaps too much passion. But-she did not care to refer to her love as a threat. This was only to convince the managers to re-open and, perhaps, re-cast the Opera Populaire.
Well, started Firmin, but was interrupted by Andre Why, of course we do Miss Daae! We will start right away! First-the chandelier, then-the stage managers, then-the cast!
Firmin was shocked. This talk-of restoring the Opera Populaire- coming from HIM! He-who talked of retiring, just a moment ago! This was a surprise indeed! Traumatized, Firmin replied, Of course.of course we will.indeed! There is no need to worry about anything Miss Daae! The once world-famous Opera Populaire will re-open shortly!
Surprised, Christine replied Why-thank you gentle men! I am most pleased indeed! And I am sure Raoul will help in any means necessary to re-open the Opera House. In the mean time-would you care if I just wandered about the quarters?
Neither Andre nor Firmin knew what to say. She was, of course, obligated to the Opera House-but to simply roam around like suchwell its simply odd. But, desperate to please Miss Daae, the managers grant her permission
Is this but a dreamor trulyCHRISTINE! Yes, of course! If she wishes to roamthe surly she must mean to return to her dressing roomandtravel to where I reside! Ah, but that is where I will get her! Oh, Christine, wait for meIll be there soon! Sooner then youll think
Immediately leaving the managers office, Christine did as she said she would. She traveled all about-from the stage, to the lobby, to-finally-her dressing room. When she entered, the room was pure darkness. As she lit some candles, she ponders over what actions to take.
Oh Raoul, what am I to do. I love you still-and yet- I can not ignorewhat I long formy angel. How could I have done such a preposterous thing! Meof all people whom he trusted! And then I betrayed him! said Christine crying, as if she could no longer go on. Tears of being desperate and agony show
Nowis the time. Christine, you belong to me! Youll come-you just have to! Without you, surly, I cannot go on!...
Suddenly, out of darkness, The Phantom began to sing a beautiful plea to Christine Kindred spirits from the beginningsinging together as one. In darkness follow the voice which you hearcome to your strange angel!
Angel, I hear your plea, and sorrowcan you ever forgive me! Angel please come and hide no longer! There is nothing to fear! replied Christine, sympathetic
What harm could it do me? I am now the one leaving the real world and entering my fantasies. At this moment-anything is possible! But is this really good? What if one of the managers were to see us? I surly would be helpless! Oh, but just for this momentChristine
As Erik slowly step out of the shadows, Christine slowly move closer to him. Finally-the two embrace in a flood of tears, each drop one of sorrow and happiness-combined-as were they! Now, combined as one!
Oh Erik! I thought I would never see you again! said Christine in a murmured whisper, yet remaining as gentle as ever.
Christine, my love, do not fear. I received your note-I gladly forgive you-but can you ever forgive me! For all those terrible crimesBouquet oh, poor, poor, Bouquet! And Piangi! Oh, really, Carlotta must have been devastated! said Erik moving closer in fear of rejection.
Poor, poor Erik! You must not think of such things! It is time for you to purge the thoughts of the life you knew beforeand create new onesof me and you! Christine said with beaming eyes-full of allegiance and love.
Christine said Erik in shock. By this time the two are no longer embraced-yet standing not of long distance to each other. I love you
Oh, Erikhow could I live without youbut how can we survive? If Firmin and Andre truly do re-open the Opera House-we shall need to remain secretive. But I do not wish to! I wish to tell the world! Of the man-the mysterious man-who showed me the wonders of life and changed mine! said Christine, instantly replying.
They were starting to move closer now. Then, suddenly, when they were almost entwined and but a breath away, Erik held her.
Hushyou love me, do you not? We will sort things out late. But for now
It was then Christine and Erik kissed, finally, as both had hoped to for what seemed like eternity. They kissed as if they had been parted forever. As the kiss came to an end-They both sat down on the small couch in Christine dressing room. Erik remained to hold Christine-never had he dreamed this-one of his happiest fantasies-would come true.
